We are dedicated to establishing robust systems for the routine delivery of ATMPs throughout the NHS in the United Kingdom.

The Advanced Therapy Treatment Centre (ATTC) network addresses the unique and complex challenges of bringing pioneering advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) to patients. It is dedicated to making the UK the leading environment for ATMP clinical trials and to keep the UK as a location of choice for advanced therapy research.

Cell and gene therapies continue to be developed to treat some cancers, as well as degenerative, genetic and immune disorders. These advanced therapies are different from existing treatments in two important ways: they are designed to restore normal function, potentially offering cures where an unmet medical need exists and they require innovative ways of working by the NHS.

The ATTC network was established in 2018 with funding through the UKRI Medicines Manufacturing Challenge, delivered by Innovate UK.

The ATTC network’s current focus is on accelerating ATMP clinical trials in the UK under a £17.9m strategic initiative funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) where Innovate UK provides the oversight of the funds and CGT Catapult is providing coordination of the network.

The ATTC network is a UK wide group of Centres operating within the NHS framework.

The centres are:

Since establishment, the network has been developing and sharing a body of knowledge and practice that has facilitated the NHS to deliver advanced therapies.

Through the further funding provided by NIHR, and in close collaboration with NIHR’s research infrastructure and the devolved equivalents, the network aims to build on its work on advanced therapy clinical trial readiness to ensure the UK maintains its position as a globally attractive location for clinical research.
